When my dad was 18, he was recorded singing “I Sent You Red Roses” on a 78 LP album, just before he marched off to the Armed Forces in WWII. I had this and other songs he sang transferred onto a digital file. You can hear him singing this song on my podcast on this blog.
Once in the Air Force, Dad was chosen to act and sing in the Broadway musical “Winged Victory” by Moss Hart, which went on to tour the United States, and then was created into the movie version. Dad can still be seen in the movie and in the old playbills from 1942.
He went on to eventually become a professor of music, directing college choirs and taking them on tour around the world.
I send love to both my parents, and thanks for so many gifts, but especially for the gift of music.
