Ancestral Thunder
Welcome!
I begin by honoring my beloved Ancestors, and the Ancestors of those upon whose unceded Land I walk and work, the Coast Salish, Steilacoom, and Puyallup Nations.
The Thunder of our Ancestors can be heard deep within, urging us as a human nation to align ourselves with love, joy, strength, and compassion until there is equity, justice, and peace for All Beings on our Earth Mother.
This heart offering is for all of our Ancestors and Descendants and for the Wild Beauty and Ancient Ones of Nature, who are calling out to each one of us, and who always, in all ways, offer Their support and guidance. May we honor All by giving our hands in service to healing the heart of humanity.
Prayers, love, and healing to you and our planet of Family,
Big Love, Laurie

“Breathing in, I see all my ancestors in me: my mineral ancestors, plant ancestors, mammal ancestors, and human ancestors. My ancestors are always present, alive in every cell of my body, and I play a part in their immortality.”
About Me
Hello, Sacred Sibling!
I am Laurie, a mama, grammy, a visionary artist, creator of shamanic Drums, mentor, coach, and guide of heart-full ways of Knowing. I am an honored descendant of beautiful Ancestors who apprenticed me in bringing Drums to life, in unison with the ancient, old-growth Tree People along the west coast of the United States.
Expressing the joy and essence of life through creating art, music, writing, and wondrous time spent in the cathedrals and majesty of Nature fills and delights my soul. Walking these paths all this life, the perception of such incredible Wild Beauty that surrounds and supports us has expanded, and with it, so has my gratitude for life on Earth.
As a visionary artist, I have been commissioned by clients worldwide to bring hand-crafted Sacred Shamanic Drums into Being.

Ancestral Shamanic Drums
Bringing a Sacred Drum to life involves love, time, vision, and communication between beloved client and artist. Each Drum has Its own story, built on the foundations of Ancestors, Ancient Ones, Guardians, and Guides as They reach through the Veil to work with us. It is a transformative process, and those who take this walk are deeply moved by how it works and its inherent delight. Each Drum reflects the spirit and power work of Its Carrier, their Guides, and the compelling journey stories that arise as we walk this path together.
If you have a question or are interested in learning more about commissioning your Drum, please send a message using the Contact form at the bottom of this page. I’d love to hear from you.
Behind the Scenes
I so enjoy looking at photos of how people create their magic, and I want to share with you how I work in the studio and during drum-making Visioning. In this gallery, you can see the progression of creation and some up-close views of many different Drums and Mallets. Each Drum is a collaboration between my beloved client and me, our Ancestors, Ancient Ones, Guardians, and Guides, inspired by the Visions and Ceremony we take together before, during, and after the coming to life of the Drum.

Sarah: Òran Mór Drum: After taking a Journey for a Vision, the Vision comes into view as the drawing starts. Sarah’s Dragon Spirit Guide is central to this Drum and It’s energy and frequency hold great power in playing with the Drum.

Sarah: Òran Mór Drum: Sarah was born in Wales, and the Tree of Life is very important in her sacred work, holding great meaning for her. Cougar also appears walking under the Tree.

Sarah: Òran Mór Drum: Now, the drawing begins to show the Vision, as mountains form in the background, a cave appears within it, and a trail leads to where Cougar walks.

Prayers and Blessings: Dipping prayer ties into sacred Waters worldwide. This happens during my travels and with Waters sent by beloved past Clients from their travels around the world.

Prayers and Blessings: I am readying prayer ties for the Ceremony. Each bundle has been dipped in sacred Waters from around the world, both during my own travels and with Water sent by beloved past Clients from their travels around the world.

Prayers and Blessings: Each client receives a prayer stick, a branch with prayer ties of blessings created during the Ceremonies for their Drum. Asked to release these prayers by placing them in Nature, this client left hers in the cradle of a Tree in Ireland.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: For Rowan’s first BirthDay, as his Grammy, I heard to make him a Drum of his own. Along the outside of the Sacred Circle is his name in Viking Runes as well as Celtic Ogham. On the Mesa of this Drum are ancient Sámi glyphs, originally found on generations-old Sámi Noaidi (shaman) Drums.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: At 10 years old, Rowan uses his first Drum, made by his Grammy when he was just a baby, and transfers some of the ancient Sámi glyphs to inside of the Sacred Circle of the Sámi Drum he will Birth by himself now. Also within the Sacred Circle, he added names of many generations of his male Ancestors, to assist him in his walk into his own adult personhood.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Now in Birthing Ceremony, Rowan builds his own Altar in preparation for Birthing his Sacred Drum.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Now in Birthing Ceremony, Rowan learns how to make holes in Buffalo’s prepared Mesa, to ready for lacing.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Now in Birthing Ceremony, Rowan lays out the Altar, and upon it, Buffalo, who comes straight from a 24-hour soak in Sacred Waters and is heavy with the sanctity of Them.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Now in Birthing Ceremony, Rowan lays out the Altar, and upon it, Buffalo, who comes straight from a 24 hour soak in Sacred Waters and is heavy with the sanctity of Them. Upon Buffalo, Rowan carefully centers his Sacred Circle, now complete inside and out. Once this is done, the lacing begins.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Every Drum I have a part in creating, is offered the blessing of a sprig of Great GrandMother Cedar’s boughs, at Her behest and guidance. She said this is so She can continue to work with the Drum Carrier, and resonate Her energies and healing work for the Earth through the vibrations of their playing. This tiny piece of Her is tucked inside, between Buffalo’s skin and the Sacred Circle just before the lacing begins during the Birthing Ceremony.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Birthing a Sacred Drum is hard work. There is much pulling, stretching, and pulling again, which takes a lot of effort. It is a true rite of passage to build one’s own Drum. Here is Rowan, just getting started and having no idea how much work it will be to complete this Ceremony.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Showing the beauty of the lacing on the back of the Mesa, Rowan rests in the center of the Altar with his Drum.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Helping Rowan as he Births his Drum. He had no idea how much hard work it was, and learned that the word “birthing” is a very correct term for the work.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: The Drum resting upon the family Altar cloth, woven in the traditional Sámi way. It will be ready for Awakening in 24 hours.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Freshly Birthed and still heavy with Waters, Rowan picked up his Drum and exclaimed, “Wow, I am going to have to work out more!” The Drum was the same size as he, sitting down! What a powerful, beautiful Drum.

Rowan: Sámi Drum: Very proud of his hard work, Rowan shares the beautiful inking colors of his Sacred Circle.
Rowan: Sámi Drum: Having completed bringing his Drum to life, Rowan’s Ancestral Sámi Drum rests upon the family Altar surrounded by the energies of many Stone People and Sage.

Our family Grancestors Drum: On my way to a five-day spontaneous Vision Quest with the Sacred Circle ready for Birthing, I stop at many sacred places along the journey, including here at Crescent Lake in Washington State, to offer my blessings and gratitude for the honor of this opportunity to connect with Ancestors and begin Ceremony by opening to what the five days will bring. Inside the Sacred Circle is wood-burned the names of thirteen generations of my maternal Ancestors and Descendants, created at the behest of the Ancestral GrandMothers and the Ancient Ones of the RainForest.

Our family Grancestors Drum: the Opening Ceremony for It's Birthing at the sacred Hoh River, including five days of spontaneous Vision Quest in the Hoh RainForest.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: in the Birthing Ceremony, held within the Hoh RainForest, with Buffalo skin fresh from a 24-hour soak in Waters of the sacred Hoh River. We sit by Fire and prepare to Birth this very sacred family Ancestral Drum. Within the Sacred Circle (hoop) are wood burned the names of 13 generations of maternal Ancestors and Descendants.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: After Birthing this Sacred Drum, It rested for 24 hours and during that time, was taken to the blessed Waters of the Hoh River for Ceremony, to release the Birthing Waters, and to offer Great Gratitude and sacred blessings to the Spirit of Waters.

Our family Grancestor's Drum: walking with the Drum deep within the Hoh Rain Forest during the 24-hour Resting Time after Birthing this Drum. This walk was to immerse the Drum in the frequency and communications of this very ancient and powerful Forest.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: Walking through the Ancient Ones, the Old-Growth Western Red Cedars in Washington State, I am on pilgrimage to the top of the mountain to perform an Awakening Ceremony for this Drum.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: Offering the energy of the newly Birthed Drum to Great GrandMother Cedar, the oldest living Western Red Cedar in the world, whose Presence still stands in the Hoh RainForest in Washington State.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: The newly Birthed Drum resting inside the Awakening Tree, a massive Old-Growth Western Red Cedar who was more than 1,000 years old, and hollow inside. She was so big, there were three rooms within her belly, and could fit many human people within her, as we held Awakening Ceremonies for Sacred Drums within Her Being. After She laid down, She asked me to take a branch of Hers and craft it into an Awakening Mallet for future Drums. She lived in the Hoh RainForest in Washington State.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: The very first play with the Grancestor’s Drum. Drums prefer their first play is with children. My GrandChildren were very excited to be the first to play with the Drum.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: my parents, my Papa and Mama, waiting while I set up the beet juice bowl and Ancestral Drum, so that we could capture Mama’s handprint on the Drum - the first adornment to the Mesa of this Sacred Drum.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: Mama placed her hand in the beet juice ink bowl, and then carefully placed it upon the very center of the Drum, pushing it down to create what became the Central frequency of the Drum.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: Mama’s handprint held the Center of the Mesa and the frequency of all our Maternal Ancestors, along with her Mother, for many years, alone in the center of the Drum.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: Years after we added my Mama’s handprint to the Drum, my Ancestors and Guides clearly told me that my father’s handprint HAD to be added THAT DAY. Rushing home to get the Drum, we set up the ink and asked Papa to add his hand next to Mama’s. Little did I know at that moment, Dad would be taken to the hospital a few hours later, never to return home again.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: Helping Papa place his hand into the ink and then onto the Drum, right next to Mama’s handprint.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: Papa’s handprint now resting to dry upon the Drum.

Our family Grancestor’s Drum: Freshly inked with my beloved 93-year-old Papa’s handprint, right next to my Mama’s, whose handprint had been placed in the center of the Drum years earlier. Papa’s print was added the day he was taken to the hospital. We did not know then he would never return home.

"My beautiful experience includes the process of the drum being birthed into this world through the expression of your big, beautiful heart and magical hands and to be able to merge with you to allow it to unfold. May we all rise up. Much love, Grandmother. We love you so much and are blessed to be able to hold someone like you so close to our hearts. So very inspiring."

“Channeled and Sacred Experience. I waited over ten years to find the "right" drum, and when I found Laurie, it finally felt right. Laurie is much more than a drum maker. She works with your guides and ancestors in a blessed traditional way to bring forward the design. I could work with her on items that were special to me and that I wanted to be included in the design, and she worked magic to bring it into Being. Totally unique and stunningly beautiful and powerful. I'm very grateful that she is sharing her gift."

“Laurie has a rare skill to help consciousness changers shift their outer landscapes to reflect their inner landscapes. I spent time learning how to make a drum with her over a period of months. As a gentle and encouraging guide, she helped me find my voice and express it through a creative process. Laurie's mentorship enabled me to connect more deeply with my ancestors and hear their calling of ancient wisdom in my drumming. She strikes a magical balance between friendly, approachable, and wise. Words don't begin to touch my profound appreciation for her ability to use her gifts to nourish others. If you are ready to move through the world in a more connected way, she is the person to see."
Katie Greenland, Idaho, USA

"Laurie led me on an inspirational spiritual journey of discovery as we worked together to envision, purpose, and create my Spirit Drum…a drum attuned to facilitate connection with my ancient Celtic ancestors, Animal Allies, Spirit Guides, and healing work as a Reiki Master/Practitioner. The process was nothing short of extraordinary, and the journey was miraculous. That I could express even a small measure of my awe and gratitude for the incredible experience of the visionary work Laurie does and the indescribably beautiful and powerful drums she creates. My drum’s beautiful, powerful Voice sends its resonance out into the World and Beyond, carrying vibrations of Healing, Ancestral Connection, and Love for all Creation. My gratitude to Laurie is boundless, as are her talent and integrity."

“Oh, LAURIE! She is truly, simply BEYOND WORDS! Gorgeous, more beautiful than I had hoped for! The colors, artistry, and tone…all perfect. The Spirit of my Ancestors is within Her, and She will be a Blessing to me and all those who will come in contact with Her through the Ethers and on this physical plane. When I read the inscriptions, I feel the Power and Love of the Universe and all my precious Ancestors through whose blood, sweat, tears, and Love have brought me into existence. I am truly humbled and honored to have Her in my hands! There are no words to thank you but know in my heart and from my Soul, I am so very grateful for you, your gifts, and this incredible work of Art and Love! From my Heart to Yours, may every Blessing be Yours. Thank You! With so much Love and Gratitude!”

“Working with Laurie was an astoundingly deep and meaningful journey that unfolded in beautiful and unexpected ways during every step. Laurie and I worked together as mentee and mentor as she shared her immense knowledge of the Drum, Rattle, and Sacred Tools with me. As a teacher, Laurie is kind and thoughtful. She gently guided me to find my own understanding and affirm my own truths as my Drum, Rattle and Mallet came into the world. The Sacred Tools that were birthed through this relationship and work with Laurie are powerful and strong forces in my life now, and I am filled with gratitude for the gift of working with her.”
Leon Finley, Washington, USA

“My friends and I love our beautiful Drums very much. We learned wisdom from those Sacred Creatures. I learned so many things from Buffalo and Cedar. They taught me the circle of life, death and new life, and I told everyone what I learned. It's like ripples. I had a feeling that my friends were waiting to meet their Drum for a long time, and most of them are women. It feels like a sister circle is being born and connected by the Sacred Drum. Thank you for bringing Drums to Earth."

“Woo Woo!!!! My Sacred Spirit Being, my Sacred Drum has arrived. You are truly gifted in the Art of Drum Making, a calling that I know brings joy to your ancestors! Laurie, you are indeed a gifted descendant of ancestral drum makers! It is breathtaking to see what your hands can create! It is beyond my expectations! I thought from the video that some of the weavings around the rim might be painted - but no, they are actual Peruvian weavings as described in your original birthing journey! The Chakana right now is drawing me into the portal as I am looking at it and writing to you. From this distance, halfway across my room, it is 3D, like it’s above my beloved Apu Ausangate and the waters below. I like my spirit guide, my Condor hovering and flying above - and yes, the colors of the diamond match the weaving, as you stated. Your attention to detail is truly your gift Sister! The extra weavings in the back do allow for easy handling, and the Palo Santo mallet fits so comfortably in my hand...and OH MY!!! The Sound is Incredible. Can you Sense my Satisfaction!!!! I cannot put into words the giant smile and glistening eyes on my face! I Love my Sacred Drum, and it feels so much a part of me. This Spirit has been with me before - this Drum is so comfortable to me. I lift it and I can instantly sense the power, the sacredness, the awe. As I look at it, I know I will be journeying thru the portal to connect with the Ancient Ones Who Know Me So Well, to reinstate and bring back and remind me of this Drum Spirit who also knows me. Who knew??? All of this is flashing thru me as I am writing to you, my Sister!!! Oh, the Ribboned Sprig is also amazing. I am so honored and blessed to have journeyed this Sacred Path with you - that the Spirit of my drum has found and selected you, my friend, to bring it to life. What a wonderful experience it has been for me on this journey to birth and awaken my drum. I marvel at how the energetics of one drum can take you on your own personal drum-making journey! Thank you again, Sister!!”

“Oh my, oh my, the power!!! Oh, My God!! I cried and cried and cried. I can’t even start to express how beautiful my drum is, and you are...I’m still crying. My heart and spirit are pounding and vibrating, and I am resonating so deeply. I have no words to fully express the beauty of how wonderful it is to connect with you and feel all that you express, and know that you have deeply understood all that is my essence. The drum mesa is perfect, and the power of being with the eclipse...aaaaah! I feel the opening of many realms. There is so much stirring and clearing around and through us. It is very exciting and expanding to see the creation through your connection. I'm still struggling for words that do justice to the importance of this manifesting and holding of light that we both work with for all consciousness. I'm deeply grateful for this sharing of your powerful gifts. Laurie, I don’t have adequate words to express the depth of my gratitude for connecting with you and the journey of creation that is your powerfully beautiful gift - so palpable, magical, and powerful. I'm honored to connect with you and my heart is warmed in the knowing of your being I am sending you a hug and much love, my sister. Endless, eternal love. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am beyond blessed, living in the gratitude of your being. Deep Munay, Emunah, sending gratitude and so much sweetness of life to you.”
